(1)  The Center for American Progress reports that all students in the United States deserve access to not only a quality education, but also one that takes place in an environment that is safe and respects their basic human dignityMany states have taken legislative and regulatory steps to foster safe environments for LGBT youth in schools, albeit to varying degrees of coverage and enforcementRead more.

(2)  The U.S. Center for Disease Control in Atlanta has said that adolescent and young adults killing themselves after enduring episodes of severe bullying has reached pandemic levels. The victims come from every walk of life, socioeconomic, and ethnic background, but in a majority of the cases, they all share one common denominator, they are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or queer questioning.  See more of the story here.

(3)  Made for Flight is a transgender youth and ally empowerment workshop series designed to celebrate youth voice and resiliency. Made for Flight creates a space specifically for youth voice during the preparation for, and the implementation of, Tucson’s Fifth Annual Transgender Day of Remembrance on Nov. 20, culminating with a public display of handmade kites that celebrate the lives of murdered transgender individuals and a youth literary reading at the UA.  More here.

(4)  The Religious Institute, a multi-faith organization dedicated to sexual health, education and justice, calls on the nation's clergy once again to speak out in support of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender teens and young adults in recognition of National Coming Out Day, which is Oct. 11 Studies show that almost six in 10 clergy from mainline denominations support the full inclusion and acceptance of LGBT persons, yet other studies have found that eight in 10 of even the most progressive clergy don't have programs in their congregations to support LGBT youth.
