This webinar (June 6, 2:00-3:30pm) will present an overview of the challenges that Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning and Intersex (LGBTQI) youth face in their schools and communities. Presenters will discuss the importance of changing perceptions, practices, and culture to address the needs of these underserved youth. Future webinars in the series will discuss LGBTQI youth and their families and LGBTQI youth in juvenile justice settings. Click here for registration!

 (3) Jennifer Knapp at Queen Anne UMC and Seattle First UMC (June 18 & 19; Seattle WA)
Jennifer Knapp will be giving a talk at Queen Anne UMC on June 18 and performing at Seattle First UMC on Seattle 19 - our Pride week contributions. Jennifer was a highly regarded Contemporary Christian Artist (read: contemporary Christian music genre) until she came out publicly in 2010. Many of the stations that used to play her music banned her from their platforms.  From her website:  "In an effort to continue to create a positive and constructive dialogue on behalf of LGBT people of faith Jennifer is now presenting Inside Out Faith. Having experienced, first hand,the devastating effects of rejection and judgment, Jennifer knows full well the challenges of being €śout€ť in certain faith communities. (4) 3rd Annual Safe School Conference in Long Beach (August 1-3; Long Beach CA)
We invite you to learn about the critical issues schools will be facing and cost effective strategies to deal with these same issues. The conference will discuss the direct link between school safety, learning, attendance, and higher test scores and is appropriate for school administrators, school board members, school counselors/psychologists, school resource officers/police officers, safe school personnel, school nurses, probation officers, youth service workers, and parents.
Keynote Speakers: Tom Torlakson, State Superintendent of Public Instruction; Chauncey Veatch, former California Drug Czar and National Teacher of the Year, and Commander Josef Levy, Long Beach Police.
Conference strands will focus on the top school safety issues facing schools today with solid strategies focusing around school board policies, prevention, intervention and law enforcement strategies such as: Bullying and Cyberbullying Issues**Gang and Youth Violence Prevention and Intervention**Dropout Prevention**Crisis Response**Alcohol and Other Drugs**Building a Positive School Climate**plus many more. There will be approximately 66 workshop sessions tied to eleven different conference strands.

(5) Campus Climate and Bullying's Influence on Student Health/Well-Being (Aug. 2; webinar)
The beginning of the 2010-11 academic year was marked by the highly publicized suicide of Rutgers University freshman Tyler Clemente. This death followed close upon the release of a report on the current state of campus climates for gay, lesbian bisexual and transgender students and led to renewed discussions about impacts of homophobia and bullying on youth. While public campaigns such as the "It Gets Better" videos have aimed to instill hope and prevent suicide of GLBT youth, the links between campus climate for students who may have been marginalized, bullying (including via social media) and mental health have not been explicitly examined as part of the evolving discourse. The recent research of Sue Rankin and her colleagues provides a challenging and important picture of the current state of campuses across the U.S. for GLBT college students. Experts in the arena of human rights and inclusion can also provide much needed information about bullying and other forms of micro-violence targeting GLBT and other historically marginalized student groups. Mental health experts can illuminate both the impacts of such experiences on students' self-concept, identity and general well-being as well as draw on established best practices regarding suicide prevention.This webinar will bring together experts in each of these areas with the goal of providing the most up-to-date information on these topics and their intersecting impacts. Student affairs practitioners and administrators will find this webinar useful in planning and implementing educational interventions promoting inclusion, addressing community and conduct issues related to bullying and other micro-aggressive behaviors and accompanying mental health prevention and intervention initiatives.
