1) Community Discussion for all Citizens interested in ensuring ALL children in Federal Way Public Schools (FWPS) receive a world-class education (March 10; Auburn, WA)

The FWPS school system is not preparing all our children for the future. This is true of most schools within Washington State. We must bring all community assets into the discussion of how to transform our present school district into world-class educational systems.

2) Expression Not Suppression Conference (March, 24; Fresno, CA)

Expression Not Suppression (ENS) is a free, annual conference in the Fresno area for LGBTQ and straight ally youth (ages 13-21) who are dedicated to creating safer schools and building the GSA movement in the Central Valley. ENS is open to middle and high school students, teachers, and GSA advisors, as well as the larger community. The ENS conference is a chance for LGBTQ and straight ally youth to network and enjoy free workshops on activism and topics related to queer life and safe schools. Don't miss out on this powerful conference! Gay Central Valley will be there tabling and also hosting a workshop. ENS also includes a free breakfast, lunch, dinner, a dance, and a drag show.

3) 11th Annual Philadelphia Trans-Health Conference (May 31-June 2; Philadelphia, PA)

The Philadelphia Trans-Health Conference (PTHC) was founded in 2002 by a group of transgender activists, allies, and service providers. The conference was conceptualized by a few people from the local community in Philadelphia who saw the need to educate providers on Transgender care.  In the past couple years the conference attendance has grown exponentially and programming has greatly expanded.  This past year at the 2011 conference, over 185 workshops were offered!. Throughout the three days of the conference we will offer many activities for attendees other than just workshops such as 12 step meetings, ball, clothing swap, youth pool party, yoga &more!  This conference is for people of all ages and camps for young kids, tweens, and teens! This years keynote speakers are Minister Louis "L.J." Mitchell, Mya L. Vazquez,  and Ryan Cassata. For more info or to register click here!

4) NAME Summer Institute: Addressing the Demographic Imperative (June 28-30; Dekalb, IL)

This years National Association for Multicultural Education (NAME) Summer Institute will be themed Addressing the Demographic Imperative - Recruiting & Preparing a Diverse & Highly Effective Teaching Force. Teacher education programs, teaming with school districts and community partners, are invited to participate in the NAME Summer Institute.  Sessions focusing on the recruitment, preparation and retention of teachers of color and/or language minorities, will be facilitated by leaders of nationally recognized programs. 5) Think Outside the Boxes:  Expanding our Understanding of Gender (July, 13-15; Berkeley, CA)

The 2012 Gender Spectrum Family Conference and Professionals' Workshop will take place on July 13-15, 2012 at the Doubletree Hotel & Executive Meeting Center at the Berkeley Marina in Berkeley, CA. Last summer's event brought together more than 450 parents, children, youth, professionals and others committed to a gender inclusive environment for all young people. With more than 30 workshops for adults, extensive programming for teens, a specifically tailored tween program and our incredible Kids Camp, it was truly an inspiring weekend. Please join us in making this year's event even more spectacular. Mark your calendars now for this exciting weekend of workshops and family fun; keep your eye out for registration and hotel reservation details arriving by email in the next couple of weeks.
