(1) HELP NEEDED: Safe Schools Coalition's looking for THREE VOLUNTEERS to help staff this listserv -- you can live anywhere in the world with email access -- you need 1-2 hours a week

This listserve is staffed by a group of amazing volunteers.

Nicole has been unable to send messages and Joyful and Brad need to step down. Can I hear a big round of applause for their service to us all?

So if it would be fun for you to spend 1-2 hours per week (2-4 at first until you got the hang of it and then 1-2 after that) helping keep this important service alive, we need you.
The listserv provides a critical resource to people in some very isolated rural communities as well as urban areas in
But we have no paid staff. It is the people of the coalition who keep it afloat. Maybe you?

If you have a little time to contribute - or if you are a student who needs to earn service learning credit and is looking for a place to feel really good about your service - let me know ASAP: mailto:beth@safeschoolscoalition.org

(2) HELP NEEDED: GLSEN-WA is helping MTV find Gay-Straight Alliances for a documentary

MTV has always been a leader in reaching out to its viewers in an effort to positively influence them.  With campaigns like Rock the Vote and Get Yourself Tested, and shows like World of Jenks, it's clear that the network is able to relay important life lessons through programming.  With the increasing number of GSA programs forming around the country, MTV took note and recognized that this was yet another important story to tell.

In an era where LGBT rights are being fought nationwide, there's a voice that is consistently missing: high school students.  Since the inception of the Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network (GLSEN) and the Gay Straight Alliance Network (GSA), various high schools have slowly allowed and supported GSA programs to be instated within their own walls.  There is evidence that the presence of these clubs directly affect the acceptance of LGBT teens by their peers and community.

The beauty of these programs is the opportunity they give students to lean on one another and support each other.  It is MTV's hope to capture that essence and show our viewers the acceptance these teens give, regardless of their sexual orientation.  GSA is a safe haven for the many students involved and our hope is to highlight the relationships that the members have with one another as well as their families.

This docu-series will capture the incredible work a high school's GSA does in order to support one another, while giving back to their communities.  We will follow them as they not only speak up for themselves but for the equality of other LGBT teens.   It is our responsibility to not only teach our viewers about GSA, but to help them connect with these remarkable teens as well.

If you are interested in this opportunity please email Joseph Bento at GLSEN Washington State, joe@glsenwa.org and he will send you information. Please email as soon as possible, as deadlines are approaching quickly.
