Alliance of Nonprofits is pleased to announce the call for nominations for the 2011 Evergreen Award.   This year's award will be presented at the 17th Annual Nonprofit Conference on May 6, 2011 at the Meydenbauer Center. 
 
The Alliance of Nonprofits is pleased to announce the 2011 Evergreen Award and to call for nominations and applications from stellar organizations as potential recipients of this prestigious award. For 17 years, the Evergreen Award has recognized nonprofit organizations for their contributions to our communities and the furtherance of exemplary leadership in the nonprofit sector. This year we are inviting nonprofits to showcase their work by directly submitting an application for this prestigious award. The Evergreen Award will honor nonprofit organizations that exemplify the use of groundbreaking partnerships and collaborations.  Eligible collaborations include partnerships between nonprofits and across the public, for-profit, and nonprofit sectors. Please consider submitting a specific project, program, or initiative that exemplifies your use of partnerships which benefit the broader community.

Hey everyone...it is that time again. Acknowledge the hard work your friend did putting that dance together! Give out kudos to your GSA advisor! Let it be known that your favorite teacher is the creme of the crop!
Fill out and send us your nominations for the 6th Annual Washington State GSA Network Awards Banquet, to be held at the Maritime Event Center, on Seattle's Waterfront, May 22nd.
We are looking for nominees in the following categories:
-Community Organization of the Year
-Community Leader of the Year
-GSA Student Leader of the Year
-GSA Advisor of the Year
-Inspirational GSA Club of the Year
-Educational Excellence Award and last but not least...
-The Rob Goldsworthy Outstanding Educator of the Year
 
* Community Involvement Organization Award. This award goes to an organization that has gone above and beyond to help out in their community. Many of these groups sponsor events, have tables at workshops, or even come into classrooms to do presentations. These groups are sometimes understaffed, volunteers, and overworked, yet they keep contributing because they believe in their cause.
 
* Community Leader of the Year Award. This award goes to an individual who truly exemplifies the true spirit of tolerance. This person shows that service to community is not just being out there, but trying to make a difference in what they do. These individuals take time out of their busy schedules to help young people.
 
* GSA Stduent Leader of the Year Award. The recipient of the GSA Leader of the Year Award has shown true heart and dedication to their chapter putting in a lot of time and effort to achieve their goal. This person has a lot of support from their peers and people around them. This person possesses leadership abilities and motivates people around them. This person is not only a role model, but someone that inspires people to stand up for what they believe.
 
* Advisor of the Year Award. This award goes to an advisor who takes a lot of their own time to help plan and coordinate GSA meetings in their school. Not only do they advise these groups, but they also take time to advocate on their behalf.
 
* Inspirational GSA Club of the Year Award. This award goes to a group of courageous youth who had contributed a lot to their school and community. They support members in their GSA, organize different events throughout the year (such as Day of Silence or No Name Calling Week) and help build tolerance and acceptance in their schools. These GSAs may have dealt with discrimination, homophobia, harassment, and bullying, yet they have overcome all of this because they believe that it is important to have a support system in their school.
 
* Rob Goldsworthy Outstanding Educator of the Year Award. This award is named after Rob Goldsworthy, a teacher at Bainbridge Island High School and Board member of GLSEN Puget Sound, who passed away from complications due to AIDS. During Goldsworthy's 12 year career at BHS, he taught English, coached tennis and debate, and was advisor to the high school's Gay Straight Alliance and the United Brothers and Sisters Club. An outstanding educator of the year follows Goldsworthy's examples by bringing enthusiasm and creativity to their classroom; manifesting the ability to connect to a diverse range of students; and possessing the knowledge to making learning fun. This award goes to someone who goes above and beyond their regular duties to advocate on behalf of their students. They often advise multiple clubs, are involved actively in their community, and/or hold many positions in different organizations. These people not only teach young people, but support the success and growth of youth.
 
You are not limited to turning in one nomination! If you know more than one individual that deserves to be recognized with any of these fine, awards, do not hesitate and send us nominations for each one! We won't stop you. (3) Nominate yourself or another youth or a youth-led organization in Ontario, Canada for the Will Munro award -- deadline April 30
 
Will Munro was Punk-rocker, DJ, queer activist, artist, volunteer, civic glue to Toronto queer culture. He changed where and how Toronto’s queer community celebrated public life. Will Munro was instrumental in creating safe space for queer and trans people in the city of Toronto. Will was also a very beloved volunteer and staff person for 14 years at the Lesbian Gay Bi Trans Youth Line. In his memory, the Lesbian Gay Bi Trans Youth Line is proud to announce the “Spirit of Will Munro” Award. This award is made possible through the continuous and generous support of Kristyn Wong-Tam. This $10 000 award is available to Ontario LGBTTQI2S youth (under 27 years of age), or an Ontario LGBTTIQ2S youth led organizations to establish an event, project, organization or business at the local level that uses the arts* and provides youth- friendly, sustainable community growth for LGBTQ people. Guided by the legacy of Will Munro, the successful recipients will do some or all of the following:

Established in 2003 with the generous ongoing support of Dr. Leslie Wilbur, the ACLU of Hawaii Foundation's Guardians of Liberty and Justice Youth Award recognizes the work of Hawai‘i's young people in the vanguard of civil rights. Compelled by conscience, past winners overcame intolerance, ignorance and administrative opposition to lead freedom and equality forward. We encourage you to read their amazing stories - see the navigation bar to the right for an index of all past awards. We also urge you to nominate your own youth civil liberties hero! Anyone can make a nomination. Self-nominations are also accepted. Top prize is an unrestricted $1000.00 cash award, and a two-year "card-carrying" membership in the ACLU! A second prize of $500 may also be awarded.

Youth Award nominations are open year-round.

The 2011 Award nomination deadline is 3/31/11.
Applications received after 3/31/11 will be considered for the next award cycle.

Nominee criteria:
- Lives in the State of Hawai‘i (any island).
- Civil liberties activism occurred in Hawai‘i & within 18 mos. of nomination.
- Up to 21 years old at the time of the activism
- Willing to participate in the application process (see form)
- Willing to be publicly acknowledged for their work

Criteria:
1.Adversity: The scholarship applicant has faced and overcome significant adversity and has demonstrated personal growth from their experiences.
2.Strength of Inspirational Story: The applicant has a compelling story that proves he or she not only deserves a DoSomething.org scholarship funded by AT&T, but is also ready to make the most of one.
3.Creativity: The applicant had fun telling their story, personalizing their submission, engaging in the sharing process, andmost importantlycaught our attention. Please note: text entires should not exceed one page.
4.Measurable Change: The scholarship applicant has produced tangible results and a measurable impact in his or her community.
5.Longetivity: The applicant has made a strong argument for their potential for growth in a lasting, meaningful way, as a result of receiving a DoSomething.org scholarship funded by AT&T.
